Boston Strong 2014

I wanted to share this extraordinary experience, being able to not only support but HONOR so many who returned this  year as a tribute to the 2013 Marathon.  This  included my daughter Emily who ran this year and of whom I am so very proud.

This exhibit at the Boston Public LIbrary provided a venue for those who ran or were there last  year to remember, grieve, move on………the line for viewing this exhibit continued throughout the 2 days prior to the marathonblog-04 blog-05 blog-06 blog-07

So much work……hard to even imagine goes into these events, and the Boston EMS is top notch, as good as it gets, in organizing and preparing for this event.

There’s a T-shirt for the marathon that says…….Right on Hereford, Left on Boylston.  WELL,,,,that is because the runners turn onto a long city block which is Hereford, a slow but steady climb up the hill before they make the turn onto Boylston where they are home…….it’s the last .2 miles of 26.2 and they are tired but elated.  This is where I parked myself for the entire day.   So many runners just stopped and photographed this street sign that said Boylston, which meant that they had MADE IT. blog-09 blog-10 blog-11 blog-12 blog-13

First place finisher for the women was Rita Zaptoo from Kenyablog-15

My daughter had her money on Shalane Flannagan, a Boston native and incredible athlete who finished 7th overall for the women.   Does she have a six-pack or what????blog-16

YES!  Meb Keflezighi for the USA was first place finisher for men.

Emily Gabriel finished next in my book!  Go EM… girl rounding the corner for the finish!blog-17 blog-18 blog-19

I cannot say enough about the incredible expertise of Boston EMS.  They had people on hand & ready assist runners that I witnessed who fell on that last  climb, and with their help   AND……runners who were willing to stop to offer an arm for them to make it to the finish line, went on to complete the blog-21blog-24May we all give thanks for the strength and healing power of this momentous RUN.
